Managing a Law Library

LAC is responsible for staffing and managing all aspects of the law library's operations for a major global law firm. Operations include print and electronic collection development, reference and research, web content development, including the firm's first wiki, as well as overall maintenance for three of the firm's offices, in collaboration with other firm libraries throughout the U.S, and under the direction of the firm's executive director.

LAC consults with attorneys and the firm’s administration to implement a long-term strategic plan to shift the print collection to a virtual resource by tracking and providing updated benchmark industry studies of attorneys’ research needs, contract evaluation, negotiation and budget analysis.

LAC’s Librarians conduct outreach to train attorneys and management staff on the library systems, help them learn to navigate the library portal and its many resources, including online databases, research and reference tools, material requesting, and general library usage questions, maintenance and procedures. The Librarians also compile and distribute regular electronic newsletters to inform users of new tools and resources in their areas of specialty.

LAC’s long history as the firm's outsourcing partner includes a number of achievements involving adjusting and meeting service level agreements as the Firm has undergone two significant mergers with other firms in 2000 and 2005. LAC planned and executed the library space and move on time and under budget in 2000. LAC’s staff has received several commendations for excellent service from the Firm’s management committee.
